Happy New Year

It is hard to believe it is January already. December went by so fast with all of our fun Christmas Parties and events. We have been having fun with our relatives here for the holidays - it is so good to be together. The girls love having their cousins and Aunts and Uncles here. This is a photo of all the cousins together at Laguna Beach on New Year's Eve.  Karla, we liked your Christmas card photo so much, we copied your idea.  Thanks!  Kevin had to go back to Hawaii, but it was to wrap things up so he could come home for good! He is coming home tomorrow to stay!

Kelly had a bad cold last week. Just as she was feeling better after her last chemo treatment, she became sick with a sore throat and bad cough. It seems like if you are dealing with cancer, you should be exempt from getting the normal, yucky colds. Actually, we are fortunate that it was the first time she was sick since she was diagnosed last summer. She got to go to all of her Christmas events feeling pretty well. So we feel lucky. Unfortunately, we had been given tickets to see the Rockettes at the Orange County Performing Arts Center and she had to miss that.

I have never found a video of Kelly being interviewed at the hospital on Christmas Eve, but this is a photo of her being interviewed by NBC and ABC news.

Hi Kelly,

It's a great shot of everyone on the beach. Sorry you got a case of the cruddies (that's what my wife calls colds and such), and it's too bad you missed the Rockettes. Maybe some day you can catch them at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

Feel better soon!

Henry

Hi Kelly and family,
Glad you got a good report for the start of 2008! We are thinking of you and ask about you often. Remember Daniel T. from Robert Lange preschool and LaPaz - just his mom saying hello.

Hi Kelly!
We just got back today after spending a few days at our cabin (we went on a cruise to Mexico before that with 41 family members-it was great!)My sister from Tennessee and my sister from Paso Robles were at the cabin along with my Dad, my neice and my nephew, and of course, Mark. We left today so we wouldn't get snowed in with the big storms coming. There still is some snow on the ground. Your Dad should be back today...that's so neat! Happy New Year to you and your family.
Love and hugs,
Laurie, Mark and Mr. Turtle

Dear Kelly,

I'm glad your father is home to stay. Families belong together. Your Dad will be a lot happier to be close by.

Meanwhile, I hope your "vacation" from chemo is enjoyable, and I hope your weather is still as nice as it was in that lovely group photo. It's cloudy and dreary here.

I don't know if your Aunt Denise told you, but the PBS stations around here are showing the BBC's adaptations of all of Jane Austin's books this winter. They might be a nice way to pass some time.

Take care,
Henry

Hello everyone!

We're back home finally! We ended up having a two hour delay in LA! Between waiting for flight attendants and bad weather, we waited an hour in the airport and an hour on the runway, but finally took off at 12:30am! We arrived in Orlando by 7:30am our time.

We wish we were still there with all of you! We had so much fun! It was so great to be there for Christmas with all of you!

Have a nice, peaceful weekend! I think we will also!

Love,
Aunt Jenny, Uncle Bob, Kylie and Ryan

Dear Kelly,

As you know, tomorrow is the Feast of the Three Kings. In a way, it's sad, because it marks the end of our happy Christmas season. There are many different traditions to mark the occasion. In Southwest Germany, for example, the bakers bake large, elaborate stars out of yeast dough as a special breakfast treat. The star tastes different from any other roll - it's a little sweet, but there's no sugar icing, honey, or anything like that on it. They probably use some sugar in the dough. I don't know. They also brush some egg white on it before they bake it, so it absolutely shines.

As you probably know better than I, many Hispanics hold parades. It's a very big holiday in that community. If you're feeling up to it, you might want to go see one of these parades.

For years, the tradition in England was to go to the theater and see Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night," which is set, in terms of time, on January 6. If you can find a production of it, you might want to go see it. I have to say, I'm NOT in favor of reading ANY play, and certainly not Shakespeare. He intended us to see his plays, and when you do see them, you know what happens? The archaic language doesn't get in the way. It's easy to follow what's going on on the stage. "Twelfth Night" is a comedy, by the way, and it's a nice way to ease your way out of the Christmas season.

Whatever you do to mark the day, I hope you enjoy it in good health.

Sincerely,
Henry

Dear Kelly,

I heard tonight that many communities in Orange County are in danger from mud slides. I hope you and your family keep safe.

Regards,
Henry

Hi Kelly!
We just got home a couple of hours ago and we miss you guys!! It's too quite around here without a couple other families around! Oreo seems to have had a great time at our friends house - he looks like he had some extra holiday goodies! It was great being with you and your whole family for Christmas. Sending lots of love!
