Las Vegas Dance Convention

Last weekend Megan and Shannon's Dance Team attended "The Pulse" Dance Convention in Las Vegas sponsored by the Broadway Dance Center of New York City.  They had the opportunity to take dance classes on Saturday and Sunday with the choreographers from "So You Think You Can Dance," one of their favorite TV shows.  Saturday evening, Megan's advanced team performed in a Showcase.  It was great for the girls to be exposed to different styles of dance and take classes with well-known choreographers.  All the girls were excited to take Mia Michael's class and Kelly was happy to have a chance to talk to her. (See first photo below. The guys in black are her bodyguards.)  If you were following Kelly's story a year ago, Kelly's fourth grade teacher, and good friend now, Clare Reding, contacted Mia and told her about Kelly and what  big fan she was.  So shortly after Kelly was released from the hospital after her recurrence last year, Mia came down to our house to visit Kelly.  (It is in the October archives if you missed it last year.)  So it was fun for everyone to get to see her again.  We had such a fun trip with the girls' dance friends and teachers. Since Dance is such a huge part of Shannon and Megan's life, this weekend was exceptional for them.  Kelly had a good time just being away for the weekend.  Thanks for being such a fun car companion Louise!  And as always, Thanks Misty for taking such good care of Shannon.

I love Vegas..
I am glad the Kelly had a way better chemo week. She is looking good.
How are you Kathy? This cancer journey can wear one out. I hope the whole family is doing good and having fun.

Dear Kelly,

Your Vegas pictures look like you had fun. What a wonderful trip!

May I give you some food for thought? If chemo is going to be a part of your life from now on, and if you like French, you may want to consider becoming a freelance translator, like my wife and me. It is definitely NOT an 8 hour/day, 5-day week job. Agencies contact us with work. If it's convenient, we take it, if not, we don't. One word of warning: they often contact you on Thursday or Friday and want the job first thing Monday morning. So, you can be VERY busy on weekends.

There's a national association of translators. They give certification exams in lots of language pairs (like French to English, for example). These are quite tough. The passing rate in German to English is usually
18-20%. The association has annual conventions in neat places, like Miami, San Francisco, Seattle, or Salt Lake City. Those can be a lot of fun.

It's just an idea.

Take care,
Henry

Which did you find more exciting: The weekend in Vegas, or coming home to find a new toilet and baseboards in the bathroom? Tough choice, huh? Murphy and I kept busy at home. Loved the pictures and stories of the weekend. Very happy that everyone had a good time

Hi Kelly! I hear that they delivered the Christmas tree this morning to Rockefeller Center! Sounds like your Dad and Murphy (who I am sure was a huge amount of help :)) made much quicker progress than I did re-doing my powder room. Next time I will have to hire Mr. Murphy to help Gabby ^..^

Love,
Pat

Hey Kelly, I was just thinking about you so I thought I'd pop in to say hello. So, are you going to see Twilight tomorrow? I can't wait!! I read all four books in a week's time and I'm now hopelessly addicted. Think 39 is too old to wear a "Team Edward" t-shirt? =0D

Hope you and your family are all doing well. Take care and God bless!

Hi Kelly! I think yesterday was chemo day so wanted to say "hi" and hope all went well. Almost "Christmas in November!"

AND guess who is done her Christmas shopping? Actually, I am running late this year and happy to now be done...unless I see other things to buy ^..^ Yesterday at Sam's I bought a big doo-dad (guess that's really not what it is called) of ribbon so I will be back to practicing my bows again on everyone's packages - always just a fiasco but you can compare to ones from earlier in 2008 and see what you think! I think this ribbon has wired edges and that usually means a battle between hardheaded me and the stubborn ribbon so the packages could be quite ugly :)

Love,
Pat
