Two Steps Forward, One Step Back

Well Miss Kelly had been feeling better and better this week.  She went to school yesterday and enjoyed being in her classes again.  We went to the clinic this morning to have her labs checked and the good news is her counts are coming up nicely.  They have come up quite a bit from Sunday when she was discharged from the hospital.  After we left the clinic, we went out to breakfast with her friend from CHOC, Cheyenne and her mom, Virginia. (www.caringbridge.org/visit/cheyennebroswell )  As soon as the waitress put the plate down in front of Kelly, she suddenly felt sick.  She took a bite or two, and that was it.  Back home to the couch.  She has spent the rest of the day resting, and hopefully will feel better tomorrow. It looks like it is just taking her some time to bounce back.  She has to feel better this weekend since  she has a lot of fun plans, starting with a Halloween sleepover at their friend Sydney's (Megan's foster sister!) house tomorrow night.   Friday morning we are planning to go up to CHOC to go trick or treating,  Shannon is looking forward to that also.

I have had some questions about Bailey and how he is doing.  You will all be glad to know that his scans from Monday of his chest were CLEAR!  What a relief!  Another answer to prayers.

Good morning Kelly - I hope you are cuddled up with Murphy and feeling better this morning. It sounds like you have a busy weekend planned and I am praying you will feel better and better! Is Murphy excited, I wonder, about his first Halloween and costume?

Hi Kelly,

Glad you're back home and that your counts are coming back up. Not so glad to hear that you couldn't even enjoy a good breakfast! Hope you're feeling better today! Enjoy your busy Halloween week-end! We have a busy week-end too. Allison's water polo team is playing in the state tournament! We're leaving for Austin today! It's also Family Week-end at UT, so we'll get to spend lots of time with Stephen! We're excited! Hope you're feeling lots better!

Love,
The Silvestris

Dear Kathy and Kelly,

The thing about cliches is there has to be a kernel of truth to them or they wouldn't stick around for so long. The one that springs to mind at the moment is: "Rome wasn't built in a day." "A journey of 1,000 miles begins with one step" comes to mind, too. True, these set-backs are disappointing, especially when they interfere with fun stuff, but consider the progress that has been made already, and bear in mind that there will be more. Two steps forward and one step back still leaves you one step AHEAD, after all.

That's great news about Bailey.
Take care,
Henry

One more thing. I know this will sound weird, but if there's a Chinese grocery store near you, get some salted plums, if you can. They do wonders for an upset stomach. If salted plums re not available, try candied (sugar-coated) ginger.

Good luck,
Henry

Hi Kelly,
Glad to hear you are feeling better and your counts are up! I hope you are able to eat a yummy breakfast by now! There is nothing worse than looking forward to a good meal, and then... losing your appetite, shall we say? Have a great time this weekend. If you get a chance, come over to Portola Hills to the Haunted House. Lauren and Kristina are working in it this year. (Last year, Kristina and I were too scared to go in, and Rhine had to take Lauren in. She came out crying!! It's a good one!!!) Happy Halloween! Love Debbie, Lauren and Kristina

Hi Kath & Kelly!
I can only agree with all the other people's comments and your blog title! So glad to hear Kelly's counts are going up! But, I know it must be frustrating to get sent back to the couch when you think you're on the mend! Your Halloween plans sound like lots of fun!

I don't know about the salted plums, but I do remember Gramcracker loving candied ginger! You can steep it in hot water to make a kind of tea too if eating it straight is a little too much ginger!

Whatever you do - I just am praying that you feel better and better! Hope the whole Laude family - including Murphy - has a fun Halloween!

Love & Hugs!
Aunt Tracy

Ello Loov,
The northeastern branches of the family and the entire Cresskill High School graduating class of 1978 all wish you well.
How nice that your stomach is settling down just in time to fill it with twelve pounds of Snickers, KitKats, and Skittles.
Hope you're up to a very fun three-day weekend.
Love you!

Hey Kelly! I know that today should have been a chemo day; if so, I hope it went well and that you had no problems.

I looked at the jelly cupboard in the living room today and decided it needed to be cleaned out because Gabby's not here (don't ask. Suffice it to say that was one very expensive donut she licked!) and I am bored. AND, great news - there were snowmen inside just waiting to be set free for the season - hah, and you can always justify it by saying there is a need to do things in dribs and drabs!

Love,
