Idyllwild Photos

Here are some photos of where we stayed in the mountains near Idyllwild last weekend.
This is Mark and Laurie's cabin that we stayed at with them.  It was so cozy with a fire in the fireplace and seeing the snow come down outside.

The photo below a view looking up the driveway. (That's Laurie at the top of the driveway.)  This was the morning it was snowing.

Trying to get down the steep driveway in the slippery snow was a challenge.

I'm so glad we had a chance to have a fun weekend in the mountains.  Today wasn't as good.  I was at the clinic for over 6 hours for my chemo treatment.  It made me pretty sick today.  They had to stop one of my infusions to give me more anti-nausea medication in my port.  Then they slowed down the infusion and I felt better.  I felt pretty loopy when I was done.  As we were leaving, my mom had to steer me away from walking into walls since I was having trouble walking straight.  But at least it kept me from throwing up anymore.  I feel better tonight.

Kelly,
Your trip to the mountains sounds wonderful! I'm so glad you had such a fun time. Today doesn't sound so hot, but I'm glad you're feeling alright tonight.
We are STILL fighting colds over here. UGH! We miss you and hope that we'll all be better soon so that we can see you!!!

Hi Kelly!
I'm sorry your chemo day didn't go so well. Did you hear that tonight they're suppose to get 1 to 2 inches of snow in Idyllwild and tomorrow night 1-2 FEET!! I wish we could have gotten snowed in yesterday and then you wouldn't have had a bad chemo day and we'd still be playing in the mountains, and you and Megan and Shannon would be making snowmen and sledding. I bet Mr. Squirrel is looking for his peanuts.
You take care and we hope you're feeling better. Hope your Momma isn't too sore from those nasty falls. Love the pictures!
Love and hugs,
Laurie and Mark

Hi Kelly,
I hope today is a much better day for you! Sorry yesterday wasn't a day at the cabin! Wish you could've been there instead! Beautiful photos! A fire in the fireplace with snow falling outside sounds like a wonderful place to be right now!!

Hope your week gets better and better for you!

Love,
Aunt Jenny, Uncle Bob, Kylie and Ryan

PS. Tell Megan that Ryan received his Legoland coin in the mail today! He was so excited to get a letter and to have his coin in it was cool! Oh, we all enjoyed the glitter--ha ha! Luckily, Ryan opened it on the counter, so we still have some glitter there!

Sweet Kelly,
I am so glad you got to enjoy the snow and the beatiful cabin! Sounds as if you had a lovely time with your sisters: I just wish I could get to sunshine and 80 degrees in two hours from Toledo,
I am sorry you are still having to go through all that awful chemo but as long as it is doing the job - it sounds as if they are treating the nasty dragon with all they've got and I am praying everyday that you get the best of results next time the do the mri and you are in my thoughts constantly I love you very very much and I am sending lots of hugs and kisses to you and Megan and Shannon! Dear Kelly,

The pictures looked great. As for the chemo, I guess the old notion that if it doesn't taste awful or make you feel lousy, it can't be any good applies. It's too bad it has to be that way.

Is your mother okay? Slips and falls on the ice can be dangerous.

My wife and I saw your Aunt Denise last night. She treated everyone to chocolate cake and sparkling cider in honor of the library's tenth anniversary in the new building. It was a nice little party. There were 9 of us altogether.

When you're home, back on your couch after chemo, have you tried peppermint tea? Sometimes that can settle a jittery stomach. Lemon balm tea works, too, sometimes (if you can find it). If not, you can buy a package of seeds, and grow some yourself, if you like. Your mother can put it in salads, too. It has a lemony flavor, and it tastes pretty good. Sometimes it's referred to as melissa, or even Melissa officianalis.

I bet I know what you'd love to give up for Lent: chemo. I'm afraid that's not on. Maybe next year.

I am sorry to hear, however, that chemo didn't go too well. I hope that you're feeling better today.

Dear Kelly,

I'm glad you weren't in the mountains yesterday. I just heard on the radio that two skiers were killed in an avalanche somewhere east of Los Angeles.

I know that Chinese New Year is coming. If you have any good Chinese restaurants in your area, you might want to go. In some parts of China, lion's head soup is traditional. Don't worry. The "lion's head" is a big meatball made of ground pork. The lion's main is bok choy that is stuck into the meat ball. If you have a vivid imagination, it does look a bit like a lion's head. They also do a number of dishes with crab and shrimp for the new year. Those can be quite nice, and tradition also says it's good to eat kumquats. Have you seen those? They're small citrus fruits, and you just eat them, skin and all. The Chinese equate the golden orange color with real gold, so kumquats are supposed to bring you wealth in the new year. At the very least, they'll give you extra vitamin C, and that may be a good thing. It will certainly do no harm.

I see that there's going to be a special Chinese New Year's show at Radio City Music Hall in New York (home of the Rockettes). They may take it out West too. I don't know. If they do, it could be fun.

Have a pleasant weekend.

Hi! We got Internet on our Wii and we hooked up a keyboard and now we're posting a comment from the Wii! Have you been using your Wii a lot? There's a cool program on the Wii (it's free)where you can look at other people's Miis and enter your own in contests. You can download it at the shopping channel on your Wii. We need to e-mail each other our Wii numbers so we can send each other messages and trade Miis. We already sent you ours last week. Check it out.

Love,
Aunt Tracy and Jake

Hi Kelly and everyone. I have been keeping an eye on your blog. I really appreciate you and your mom taking the time to keep us up to date. It helps me feel closer to you at least in spirit.

Sorry you don't feel too good. You'll have to start knitting or quilting if you are on the couch too much.

Lots of snow now on the mountains, huh? Glad you were able to see some in person. Did you go to 5th or 6th grade camp? Sometimes it is snowing then.

Think of you all often.

Dear Kelly,

No matter what I do, I can't get your Team Kelly "thermometer" any more. I hope that means you shattered it!

Have a great day!
